I’ve just got back from performing my formal close of magic show in the private dining area of Square restaurant just off Berkeley Square, Mayfair. I think Mayfair must have the highest concentration of magicians anywhere in London, I seem to spend half my performing career here. I guess a lot of this is because of the high amount of quality restaurants, hotels and bars in this area.
The party was a celebration for a couple who’ve recently got married. Several of the guests only spoke Russian with very limited English so I had to perform a lot purely visual close-up magic. I try and concentrate on performing funny close up magic and sometimes purely visual is the way to go, in this instance I had to drop all my hilarious repartee to rely performing hard-hitting magic without a lot of banter. My formal close-up magic show is a lot of fun to perform, in it I get to perform a lot of magic routines I can’t do in my table or walk around sets because of length of time they require.
