A magician's diary
Tuesday, August 29, 2006
Greetings my children, I have not deserted you, I have been travelling the world absorbing lots of magic, comedy and alchohol. You will all benefit from my travels in your own way.August tends to be a quiet month for professional magicians so I decided to clear off with another magician friend to the World Championships of Magic in Stockholm, Sweden. It happens once every 3 years and it was a last minute decision for me to attend so I had to pay through the nose for accomodation and flights but it, twas a great week.
I got to see lots of great magicians lecture, met up with lots of old magician friends and met new magicians who became my friends(god I'm good at this shit). Lots of late night boozing which meant that mornings were a no-no. Stockholm is dead expensive so I was very poor by the end of the week so to recover I decided to fly over to Ireland for some rehab. My folks were in Ireland (where their both from) so I flew back to Stanstead and kipped over night in the airport lounge and flew to Kerry in the morning. Slumming it in the airport lounge gave my the lurgee and I spent the next week feeling ill and sorry for myself. Didn't go out much because of this.
Flew back to England did a few magic jobs and then darted off to Edinburgh with a magician called Ross Jones to the festival. I am a huge fan of the Edinburgh festival, it's like a refugee camp for the middle classes. Lots of great shows and some terrible ones as well. I watched some magic shows and an awful lot of comedy shows. The highlight was the spots from Michael Macintyre who is a very funny man. My face in repose looks like somebody has deeply offended my family and he made me laugh out loud many times which is something very few can do.
In the few days I was in London during August I did a job for Front magazine celebrating their 100th edition and did some magic for the Towers of London, apparently they'll be huge(I've never heard of them either). Nice chaps and they were a big fan of my magic.
Did a handful of weddings in Farnham,Newbury and Banstead.
Also recently worked with a wedding photographer who does great work.
In the next edition I'll be answering some questions I've had in my mailbox about where my favourite venue to perform magic in London is and where would be my dream venue.
For now, we must part.
Missing you already.
