Review from the Chinawhite magic night.

Tuesday the 9th May was the debut of magic night at Chinawhites. Resident magician Sav organised a team of expert sleight of hand magicians, mind manipulators, escapolgists and the plain bizzare to keep the well heeled punters happy. Taking to the stage were Sav, Peter Wardell, Steve Faulkner and the Bastard Son of Tommy Cooper with close-up magic from Noel Qualter, Sav, Robert Fox and the spooky dark parlour of Alex Crow.

First up on the night was Sav who performed the ubiquotous cutting a womna in half illusion with the galmourous Krista. Now just about anybody could cut a womn in half, it's just the putting them back together that foils most, otherwise it's snuff magic. The crafty Sav managed to put her back together to roaring approval from the asemblage.

Next up was Steve Faulkner straight from the Plaza at Covent Garden who opened with some top rate juggling which was very impressive cnsidering the non-existant lighting and then moved into his signature straight jacket escape. Steve is a very funny guy and the crowd were really with him throughout. Only low point is the repulsion that the folks felt when watching him ripple his naked chest.

Peter Wardell is an acoomplished trade show magician, street perfomer and a previous winner of the International Close-up Magician of the Year. He performed the oldest trick in the world, the cups and balls. You may well have seen the trick done before, you may have even had the coloured cups in a magic set as a kid...but you have never seen the trick done this well from a true expert. Peter is very funny with some great gags and enjoyed some great banter with the punters. He also has world class sleight of hand skills and the finish to the trick is eye wateringly good.

Bastard Son of Tommy Cooper is a act unlike you've ever seen before. He describes himself as "the worlds'only sword swallowing, blood spurting, masochistic Welsh magician." 6 inch nails were battered into his face and then he proceeded to swallow an assortemnt of lethal looking swords. Minnie Cooper then took to the stage to lift 2 large jugs with her her jugs..boom,boom.

In another room the other worldly mind reading and downright scary shit of psychic entertainer Alex Crow was giving the heebie jeebies to those brave enough to watch. He gets inside brains and removes the thoughts and you don't even know you've been head burgled! I've still got goose bumps thinking about how he knew the stuff he did.

The strolling magicians were picking off victims as they approached. Noel Qualter was doing an absolutely amazing card trick with a locked box that just makes your brain leak and Robert Fox was doing some expert mind control magic just inches away from his "subjects".

In short a cracking night, I'm a self confessed magic nut and in general I really enjoy live performance which is something you don't get to see much these days. Rumour has it that CW will be holding another magic night in the future. If you make it be sure to bring a hard hat or your head may just blow clean off.

We've got a lot to get through class so I don't want to hear a peep out of anybody.

Been ages since I last updated so I'll be going backwards.

Today I've been trying to get my site sorted because of some blatant plagiarism my site has been punished by Google. I got the magician to remove the content but god help him if he tries it again as this is the second time he has done it. A friendly reminder to any magicians who may be reading this...write your own stuff! It isn't a lot of effort but these lazy little toads keep copying the other magicians content. Ok now I have got the rant off my chest I can calm down.

Sunday night I was at Bar Eivissain Kingston at a club night doing some magic for a mate called sam from school. The boys from The Daily Scoop were there papping everything that moves and you can see some photos from the night here. The pace was visted by "celebs" Lee Latchford Evans of of Steps and Andy Scott-Lee from erm...(answers on a postcard). I'm glad somebody told me their names, I thought it was little Ant and Dec. All being well I will be there for their next night so if anybody fancies watching me bust a move come down.

Saturday afternoon I watched the greatest football team on the planet Liverpool lift the FA cup. This was the one of the most amazing games I have ever seen and my voice is still recovering from screaming at Stevie G's screamer. Anyway that's enough of that. Great game and all but I was shattered as I just got back from Dubai the night before.

So Dubai...on Thursday evening me and another magician called Sav flew out at midnight, arrived on Friday morning in boiling hot Dubai, hotel, sleep, food etc and did the job at about 8.00 and back on the plain straight afterward. How rock and roll was that? Visiting Dubai for one day is crazy...8 hours flight there and 8 hours back. I think even S Club Juniors in there heyday didn't even do anything that cool.

We performed magic at Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club and we stayed at Habtoor Grand which was a fantastic hotel.

I didn't get to enjoy the pool or any of the amazing facilities as sleep was my only concern. Dubai is a great place, it's like Milton Keynes but with more sand and less burnt out cars (hello Milton Keynes!). We were working outside and the heat is just incredible. My cards could have been rolled up Swiss roll style when the heat hit them but I carried on 'cos I'm a trooper.

I had a lot of time on my hands on the journey back and forth so I brought along my Ipod Nano which should be the height of cool. Now of course I only bought it in a desperate effort to be down with the kids. I am not a PC whiz and unfortunately Itunes wont load on my computer. So, I haven't got any new music on my Ipod, only what was already on my PC which was mainly tunes from TV Cream

This preamble is designed to deflect some of the shame at the contents on my Ipod. I confess I spent the flight getting down to the theme tune from Minder "I could be so good for you" and the all time classic theme tune from The Fall Guy. The music on my Ipod is so bad that nobody would steal my Ipod. Honestly my music taste isn't that bad it's just that I have got very little on it because it it's a bit broke and hard to upload music. All together now.."Well, I'm not the kind to kiss and tell,
But I've been seen with Farrah.
I'm never seen with anything less than a nine, so fine..."

Tuesday night I was at Chinawhites doing a magic night with a whole bunch of other magicians - more news on that tomorrow when my fingers don't hurt too much.
