A magician's diary

God it's so hot! I was working 3 different places in London on Saturday afternoon. First was Kings Road, Chelsea then on to Kensington and lastly Bayswater. The temperature was touching 90 on Saturday and it was pretty hard work trying to perform sleight of hand magic when the cards were melting into a solid block and coins were hot to the touch. My hands were also very sweaty so it made things very hard going but its good practice to work under all conditions. I now know I'll be ready for any jobs in the Sahara. The real sight of the day for me was a guy doing promo work wearing a massive bear costume that must have been hotter than Mars inside of. I didn't see him whan I walked past later so I assume he melted into a brown puddle. Poor bloke.Spent a lot of today thinking about possible routines for the upcoming close-up magician of the year for The Magic Circle. More news on that when I have constructed the act.

There have been a lack of updates lately as I've been somewhat incapacited/feeling sorry for myself for the last few weeks. I cut my hand rehearsing a trick called signed bank note in lemon and the pain was unbearable with the only upside being that I had a lemon scented wound. Who says I don't suffer for my art? Speaking of art...(gotta love that segue)On Wednesday I flew to Venice to perform magic at the launch party for the Scottish Arts Council exhibit at the Venice Biennale of the Arts. I had a great time on my whirlwind visit and I'll have to go back soon and see it properly. I'll have a photo up on the news page pretty soon so you can see my sunburnt face which is not a good look for me. I was only meant to be there for a day but my airline screwed up and I had to stay over another night which would have been ok if I'd have brought spare clothes....just be greatful you didn't have to sit next to me on the plane home!
This afternoon I was in Hampshire for a 60th Birthday. Whilst I was in he area I also popped into visit some friends who live locally. This evening I was at a 21st birthday in Covent Garden, London.
