A magician's diary

So the midichlorians must be plentiful in the atmosphere at the moment because I'm dead happy. I went out this evening to see the new Star Wars film which is great. Your right, this doesn't have an awful lot to with magic but shuks, I'm reliving my childhood. Oh BTW...adopting Alec Guiness accent "This is the magician you are looking for".

This afternoon I was I was at a corporate networking party at the Park Lane Hilton. These are fairly dry affairs with everybody having networking objectives to achive but with close up magic I can break the ice and then let them get on to compare their new business cards, debating the merits of bone, eggshell and off-white.

On Thursday I acted as compere for the University of Surrey Student Awards in Guildford. I also performed close-up magic at the tables during the awards ceremony.

It's the first time I've ever done any compering work and it was a strange feeling looking out at a sea of faces. For some time I have been constructing a cabaret magic act and Thursday was the first time I have had a chnace to perform some of this material on stage.

Close-up magic will always be my passion but I would like to start doing a little cabaret magic as it allows you to perform original routines and create original presentations. It gives you the freedom to create more of a character that you just cant get in 6 minutes at a table doing close-up.

I was a busy bee over the weekend.

On Saturday I was at Wentworth Golf Course for a wedding which was splendid. After I was finished I jumped on train up to Bristol to stay with a friend who was performing at a convention for magicians on Sunday. It was good to see some folks who I haven't seen for a while...top magic and some responsibly consumed alchohol is always a winning combination. I stayed Sunday night and came back today feeling "tired and emotional", which I think is celebrity talk for looking a bit scraggy.

Well this weekend I really clocked up some miles. On Friday night I was at Home House in London for an 18th birthday party. I got back about midnight and crashed out.

I was up dead early on Saturday as I had another 02 gig but this time it was in Northampton at 10.30 am so I had to get my skates on. I had a fun time and had a chance to perform for the Glitzzi Girls who were doing a signing in the store at the same time. They were very nice and I imagine they'll topple "Shampoo" in Japan...best of luck to them! You can see a photo of me performing for them on the corporate magician page.

I finished at 4pm at went off for the second gig of the day, a private party in a very scenic area of Oxford. All vintage cars and village greens. If I'd had a camera crew with me I'd have solved a murder for a Sunday night drama premiere...it was that pretty.

This afternoon I had a laid back garden party in Wimbledon. It was very nice to perform outside for the first time in ages. The summer weddings are just around the corner where my milky white skin gets close to getting some colour.
